About The Saucy Cantina
The Saucy Cantina is an explosive journey through the diversity of Finucane's vision. Nine performance courses, served up by nine hostesses - all played by Finucane - and poured over a soundtrack from hell, The Saucy Cantina is an unprecedented response to meat pies and rollmops, marshmallows and milk, and plenty of sauce.
The Saucy Cantina invites its audience into the gingham-check tableclothed cantina world, lit by abstract menu's in chrome serviette holders. Drinks in hand, they are provided free party pies, a little sauce, and face a stage with a single white chair, a menu board and an enormous vinyl fan; part mikado, part serviette holder, part vinyl diner booth.
On this simple stage nine extraordinary courses unfold - gothic stories, wild physical performance, fantastical characters - each inspired by the foodstuff on the menu. Murderous, raunchy, celestial and tender.
Tautly crafted, with an underbelly that penetrates visions of gender, violence, power and desire, The Saucy Cantina has shocked, inspired and delighted audiences from their teens to their seventies in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
The winner of the 1999 Green Room Award for Best Cabaret and the Melbourne Fringe Festival Award for Best Cabaret, The Saucy Cantina has been celebrated for both its burlesque and its brilliance - Finucane's unique combination of entertainment
and instigative art.
